Cove Creek Preservation and Development and Watauga County Cooperative Extension celebrate more than 160 years of local food and agriculture in Watauga County.
The 15th annual Cove Creek Farm Heritage Day celebrates the vibrant community of farms and rich rural heritage that have put Watauga County at the forefront of the local food and agriculture movement.
Presented by Cove Creek Preservation and Development, in conjunction with the Watauga County Cooperative Extension, the event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Historic Cove Creek School in Sugar Grove.
Cornmeal grinding with a steam grist mill, wreath making, beekeeping and apple cider pressing are among the educational demonstrations. Farm animals are a popular feature of Farm Heritage Day and several will be on site this year, including alpacas from Apple Hill Farm and goats from GOat Green farm, as well as a show calf, Jersey milk cow, horse, pig, chickens and rabbits.
The old-time country fair atmosphere will also feature face painting and activity stations for children, a horseshoe competition, wagon rides and a color guard presentation.
