Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute

The Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute is located on the campus of Lees McRae College in Banner Elk. The Institute is licensed by the NC Wildlife Commission and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The institute is licensed to care for animals, birds and reptiles. The wildlife institute nurtures over 900 injured, sick and orphaned native creatures each year. This vital wildlife rehab work includes medical, feeding, housing and supportive care. Fully recovered animals are released back in into the wild. The Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute is 501-3 non-profit organization that receives no government funding. It operates on volunteer and donations.
